Hi — I’m James. I’m a writer, illustrator, reluctant adult and generally well‑meaning human who’s been drawing and telling stories for as long as I can remember. I like creating work that feels real, easygoing and human — the small everyday moments that make me laugh.
I'm a nerd for comic books and newspaper strips. My life's biggest bucket list item was creating my own ongoing comic strip... in a classic style, something I could relate to... and here we are. "Adam & Andy" began in 1995 telling the simple everyday life stories of Adam, Andy, and their assorted family and friends. Life with my late husband and our beloved dog Baxter provided most of the situation inspiration. Each of the characters has something of "me" in them. Yes, even Mrs. Bittschlapp. Most of my process and tools are low‑tech: pencils, pens, copy paper, a scanner, and a lot of coffee.
I live in Connecticut, which is a real place. I’m usually surrounded by music, books, half‑finished doodles, and whatever thought I’m currently talking to myself about. My influences are newspaper comics, classic tv/films, beefy men, and people who don’t realize how funny they are.

Thanks for reading. Now go pet a dog.
